Legend 3D
San Diego-based Legend 3D are experts in 2D to 3D conversions, and have a patented technology to assist in the process. Due to the Company’s recent successes with movies such as Alice in Wonderland, they were looking to significantly expand and grow their network.
To handle the expansion, Legend 3D came to GPL Technologies first. 3D conversion requires only a moderately fast network, however, it requires a tremendous amount of storage. GPL focused its expertise on designing a network and storage solution that would never go down.
To accomplish this, GPL architected an innovative, Legend 3D-specific three-tier network with redundant core/distribution switches. Each edge is dual-linked to the core via 10gig. VSS protocol is being used throughout the network to ensure that traffic is load balanced. The system ensures that if any part of the network goes down, it won’t take down the entire network.
For Legend 3D, it is important that the users always have access to the storage. GPL immediately looked to Isilon, a pioneering worldwide leader in storage systems, because they offer a great clustered solution that ensures productions are not impacted even if a number of drives or active nodes fail. To further improve security, the data was mirrored to a second tier using Isilon’s affordable HL 3200 for second tier storage.
The entire Legend 3D build-out, from assessment to final deployment, took 4 months.
